Overview:
This module has an estimated total duration of 30 minutes, comprising 20 minutes for the instructional roadmap and 10 minutes for the final quiz. It begins by introducing the concepts of food system with a distinction between food security and food insecurity. Successively, the focus is set on the main policies and regulations at a Global, European and National level regarding the relationship between climate change and the food system. The module then explores the impact of climate change, explaining in detail the effects on the four pillars of food security: availability, access, utilisation and stability. Consequently, this module provides a section dedicated to the main adaptation strategies with a specific focus on risk management and insurance interventions to reduce farmers’ vulnerability. The module concludes with future challenges to food security. Throughout the module, videos and additional sources are provided to deepen understanding. A final quiz ensures comprehension of the material, testing knowledge on the different concepts introduced.

Claudio Mancuso
Claudio Mancuso graduated with honors in International Financial and Economic Sciences from the Parthenope University of Naples and earned a Ph.D. in Economics, Statistics and Sustainability. His research focuses on the relationship between climate change and agriculture, with particular interests in the wine sector, the management of water resources in agriculture, and the broader connections between food systems and climate change. In July 2025, he completed a Ph.D. visiting period at the Autonoma University of Madrid, and he is currently concluding his research period at the CMCC Foundation.
